This privacy policy (the "Policy") explains how this web site (the "Site") treats "personal information" it collects from its visitors. "Personal information" is information that is personally identifiable like a name, address, email address, or phone number, and that is not otherwise publicly available.
This Site collects several types of personal information that visitors provide to us as a result of their interactions with the Site:
We also use software to track and summarize web log and navigational information for all visitors to the Site (i.e., IP addresses, number of hits, page views, user browser types, etc.). Our tracking software respects the preferences of visitors who specify in their web browser settings that they do not wish to be tracked.
As part of our user registration process, we provide the option of registering using an existing account with an external service, such as Facebook or Twitter. This has the benefit of not requiring the user to provide a separate password for their Persuasive Thinking account. If you choose to register on this Site using such a service, or if you link your Persuasive Thinking account to such a service subsequent to registration, we collect only very limited information about that external account, such as a user id number, name, and profile image. We do not, under any circumstances, gain access to the password for the external account, we do not access personal content posted on external sites or contact lists maintained on those sites, and we do not gain the ability to post content on external sites on your behalf.
Personal information provided through use of this Site is not sold or rented to, or otherwise shared with, any third-parties. No visitor's personal information is made accessible by other visitors to the Site unless the individual who provided the information chooses to make it accessible. With the exception of specific circumstances outlined later in this section, none of our staff views individual user opinion rating data that users have not chosen to make accessible.
We may use information provided through use of this Site to respond to a visitor's request or a registration application. For example, if you use this Site to submit a registration application, administrators may use the e-mail address you provided on that application to send you updates, newsletters and other information.
We may use information provided through use of this Site to measure and analyze Site traffic.
We may anonymize and aggregate information provided by visitors to this Site in order to produce statistical data describing one or more groups of visitors. None of the data created in this way is personally identifiable.
We may use information provided by registered users of this Site in order to provide individual users with information summarizing and comparing their activity on the Site relative to that of other users.
We may use information provided through use of this Site to optimize content seen by visitors to the Site. For example, we may display links to other pages on the Site, links to content on other websites, or promotional material that we consider most likely to be useful based on information collected during visitors' interactions with the site.
We may also use information provided through use of this Site in accordance with legal proceedings (i.e., to respond to subpoenas, court orders, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims). Similarly, we may use such information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to any person, violations of our Terms of Use or Posting Terms, problems with this Site, or as otherwise required by law. Furthermore, in the event that any Persuasive Thinking entity (or such entity's assets) is acquired by or merged with a third party, personal information collected by this Site may be one of the assets transferred.
This Policy does NOT apply to third party web sites, including:
Since this Policy does not apply to any third party web site, you should consult with any applicable third party web site to learn about its privacy policies and security measures. We are not responsible for the activities and practices that take place on such third party web sites.
The physical security of this Site is handled by a company that specializes in hosting web sites. We believe that this company provides maintenance and safeguards that we could not offer as effectively on our own. We are not responsible for the activities and practices of our web hosting company.
In addition, we take measures that we consider reasonable and consistent with common industry practice to safeguard information stored on our servers against unauthorized network access. Access to registered users' personal information and modification of such information or of other content stored on the Site require user authentication using either an individual user password or token from a trusted external service. User passwords are only stored by our Site in encrypted form and are therefore not human-readable. All modifications made through the Site to existing content, such as opinion and subject definitions, are logged and past versions of such content are retained in our database.
Visitors should assume that any electronic communication transmitted through this Site is non-confidential and not protected by the attorney client privilege. We will not be liable or responsible if information that belongs to an individual is intercepted and used by an unintended recipient, or is otherwise accessed and used without our permission. By submitting information through this Site, you assume these risks.
Moreover, as stated in Section 3, individual account information "framed" by this Site is provided (and maintained) by a third party web site that states that it maintains physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to guard personal information. We are not responsible for the activities and practices that take place on this third party web site.
We reserve the right to change this Policy at any time, and without advanced warning, by updating this page. You are bound by any such revisions and should therefore review the Policy every time you visit the Site.
If your personal information changes at any time or you would like to review your personal information collected from the Site, please contact us at support@persuasivethinking.com.
Nothing herein waives, limits or in any way modifies our Terms of Use and Registration Terms.
If at any time after visiting the Site, you have concerns about the way in which the Site is handling your personal information or you change your mind about receiving information or correspondence from the Site, you may request an opt out by contacting us by email at support@persuasivethinking.com.
If at any time after registering as a user of this Site you wish to terminate your account, you may do so by contacting us by email at support@persuasivethinking.com. Note that any public content you have created, such as opinion and subject definitions, will remain available, but any information we have that identifies you as creator and all other personally identifiable information including your personal opinion ratings, whether published on the Site or stored on our servers, will be deleted.
This Site is not directed to, nor does it knowingly collect any personal information from, children under 18. If a child who we know to be under age 18 sends personal information to us online, we will only use that information to respond directly to that child, notify parents, or seek parental consent.
This site is operated from, and its servers are located in, the United States. If you are located outside of the United States, any information you provide to us will be transferred to the United States and you hereby consent to this transfer and the use of your personal information pursuant to this Privacy Policy.
If you have any questions about this Policy, or if you would like additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us at support@persuasivethinking.com.
